- The origins of SugarOak can be traced to the year 1979. In that year, Dan Baker and his business partner, Doug Cobb, constructed a 40,000 square foot office development in Herndon, Virginia. The project, SugarOak Office Retreat, was a trend setting development situated in a wooded environment adjacent to Sugarland Run and a 23 acre park. This initial office project laid the foundation, and provided the name, for the SugarOak companies. Today SugarOak Holdings is run by partners Dan Baker, Tom Donaldson, Randy Kerr, and Philip Nickles. It has divisions for commercial and residential construction, management services, and real estate investments
